AI Product Photography Prompts: Build a Clear Visual Brief

A product prompt is a visual brief, not a substitute for product information. Define the object, its framing, background, light and intended placement. Keep factual details—shape, color, label, included parts and dimensions—anchored to the real product and inspect every generated variation before presenting it as a depiction.

Write the brief before naming a style

Record the audience and placement first: marketplace square, catalog detail, landing-page hero or campaign concept. Then list the product features that must be accurate, what may change (for example, the background), and what must not be added. This prevents a mood description from taking precedence over the item itself.

Use a prompt with visual priorities

A useful order is: product and orientation; crop and negative space; setting; light direction; surface and material; permitted styling; exclusions. For a glass object, reflection and transparency matter. For packaged goods, label placement and silhouette matter. Name these as inspection priorities, not as guaranteed model behavior.

Keep image generation and editing distinct

A text-to-image request starts from a written scene brief. An image-edit request uses a source image and asks for a change. Wan 2.7 Pro and Qwen Image 3.0 Pro document separate text-to-image and edit endpoints; the edit route accepts references. If the exact product should remain, starting from an authorized product photo may provide a clearer anchor, but inspect for drift.

Example: concept image versus factual listing

Concept prompt: “Place the matte ceramic lamp on a pale oak console, soft morning light from the left, calm neutral room, generous space on the right for layout.” For a factual listing, do not ask the model to invent dimensions, certification marks, controls or packaging. Compare the output against the actual lamp and replace any inaccurate label or geometry with verified source material.

Final review checklist

Confirm silhouette, count of components, label text, material appearance, shadows, scale cues and crop. Check that decorative props do not imply accessories are included. Review at the displayed size and zoom in on text and small parts. If a claim cannot be confirmed from the real item, remove it from the image or caption.

Prompt or planning example

Concept brief: one matte ceramic desk lamp, complete silhouette visible, three-quarter view, neutral stone surface, soft side light, uncluttered warm-gray backdrop, room for a headline to the right. Do not add a brand mark, cord, switch or accessory not in the reference.

Adapt this starting point to the source image, destination and controls shown in the selected route. Keep the original where relevant, then compare the result against the specific details named in your brief. If a detail is factual, verify it from a trusted source before using the image.
