AI Video Aspect Ratio: Choose a Frame for Its Destination

Aspect ratio is the relationship between frame width and height. Choose it from the video’s destination and the action’s composition, not from a generic list of supposedly universal presets. Different endpoints can expose different options, so confirm the choices in the selected model form before writing a prompt around a frame.

Start with the crop and viewing context

A vertical frame suits a narrow mobile placement; a wide frame can leave room for landscape action or a title-safe region; square may suit a compact feed tile. These are layout decisions, not guarantees about platform performance. Identify where the clip will appear and whether it will be cropped again after generation.

Keep essential action inside the safe area

Place faces, hands, products and movement away from the extreme edges if the final placement may crop. For a subject moving across frame, allow room in the direction of travel. Write the prompt to describe the framing—close-up, medium shot or full scene—without contradicting the chosen ratio.

Check the selected endpoint

Seedance 2.0 text-to-video documents endpoint-specific aspect-ratio controls. Wan 3.0 Prime has its own text-to-video parameter set. Those facts do not mean the two routes have matching choices or that ImageGen Studio exposes every provider parameter. Read the active form, then record the route and selected ratio with the clip.

Review the finished frame through time

Inspect the first, middle and last moments for cropped limbs, a product leaving the frame, or a horizon that shifts. A composition that works as a still may not work when the subject moves. If the framing is wrong, revise the crop or action path as a separate change instead of rewriting every prompt detail.

Avoid confusing ratio and resolution

Aspect ratio changes frame shape; resolution changes pixel dimensions. Neither substitutes for the other. First decide the composition and destination, then select the available size and inspect whether the rendered details remain legible at actual playback size.

Prompt or planning example

For a vertical product clip: keep the object centered with space above it, ask for a small movement that stays within frame, and avoid a lateral camera move that pushes the item to an edge. Verify the route’s supported ratio in the active form.

Adapt this starting point to the source image, destination and controls shown in the selected route. Keep the original where relevant, then compare the result against the specific details named in your brief. If a detail is factual, verify it from a trusted source before using the image.
